Group Coaching

In order for us to maintain the highest level of coaching and ensure the best experience for our Little Wheelers we organise our classes by ability. We are confident that this will aid the development of your child’s cycling and make for a more enjoyable experience.

We will of course be able to offer additional guidance regarding the appropriate group so please do not hesitate to contact us, but below is a basic guide:

(Certificates 1 -3)

  • Currently riding a balance bike/bike without pedals or riding with stabilisers.

On completing our ‘BALANCE’ level your child should be able to:

  • Place their helmet on head and fasten strap
  • Recognise several key components on their bicycle
  • Mount, dismount, pick up and place a bike down correctly
  • Scoot and turn safely and effectively with confidence
  • Use brakes to stop
  • Ride unaided on pedals

(Certificates 4-7)

  • Newly transitioned to pedals and riding unaided.
  • Needs help/support in getting moving.
  • Unable to ride with one hand.
  • May be uncomfortable with riding out of the saddle.

On completing our ‘PEDAL’ level your child should be able to:

  • Complete a standing start
  • Perform a British Cycling ‘M’ check highlighting possible issues
  • Display left/right hand turns with signals and shoulder checks
  • Demonstrate the ability to emergency brake without skidding
  • Perform a safe and controlled overtaking manoeuvre with observation
  • Ride and freewheel out of the saddle

(Certificates 8, Bronze, Silver and Gold)

  • Riding unaided.
  • Riding in a controlled manner without wobble.
  • Able to use arm signals with confidence whilst riding.
  • Comfortable pedalling out of the saddle.

On completing our ‘SKILL’ level your child should be able to:

  • Demonstrate the ability to ride in pairs and small groups safely and effectively
  • Perform technical handling drills such as track stands, limbo and out-of-saddle slaloms
  • Demonstrate good knowledge of bicycle components and their role
  • Perform a tyre change with minimal assistance
  • Perform moving mounts and dismounts
  • Demonstrate good knowledge of bicycle racing events and how to ride them

About us

Little Wheelers was set up to offer professional cycle coaching for children aged 3-12. From balance bike level to joining their first cycling club, our aim is to help your child develop their  confidence on the bike as well as teaching key bike handling skills in a safe and controlled environment.
